Letterpress

Letterpress is the process of printing direct from relief images - the process Gutenberg used and the predominant printing process for the first 400 years of printing. The innate beauty of a truly "artistic book" boasting all the aesthetic qualities of a fine letterpress edition also are available from the Pioneer Press. We have an extensive library of Monotype hot metal matrices (mostly American, but some English), and the equipment for casting and printing from the types we cast. Obviously, this is a labor-intensive process which makes limited letterpress editions much more costly and longer in production, but the value is well appreciated by a devoted circle of letterpress enthusiasts world-wide. On rare occasion, we will "take on" a letterpress projects if they truly interest us.
